About Crowdfunding

Welcome to Crowdfund UC Davis, where students, faculty, staff members, and researchers can raise money to turn their great ideas into reality. 

Before applying, please review the Crowdfund UC Davis Guidelines.

Deadlines and Important Dates:

 Crowdfund October 1 - October  31, 2021:  Apply by March 29 - June 30th, 2021 at 5:00 pm.  

Applicants notified of acceptance or disqualification: on or before August 11, 2021 at 5:00 pm

Crowdfund February 1 - February  28, 2022:  Apply by November 1 - December 10, 2021 at 5:00 pm

Eligible Projects: Are affiliated with UC Davis and non-profit in nature; have a sponsoring UC Davis department, program, or center, in which donations can be deposited into; consist of project leaders who are willing to create and market promotion materials before, during and after the campaign; gain approval by submitting an application and project pitch before the established deadline.

Once a project is approved, a representative from the Development and Alumni Relations will be in contact to help finalize a goal, develop a project page, and provide consultation throughout the process.

What is Crowdfund UC Davis?

The Crowdfund UC Davis site for the University of California Davis is where alumni, students, parents and friends can make donations to support innovative projects that propel student engagement, new research discoveries, and efforts to expand UC Davis impact on California and the world.


Who promotes Crowdfund UC Davis projects?

Project teams that participate in Crowdfund UC Davis cohorts are responsible for all of their own project promotion (i.e. social media, email, etc.). To participate in Crowdfund UC Davis, project teams are required to attend a basic training session on crowdfunding that includes information on how to promote their project through social media and other outreach. However, all social media and other outreach for each project will be performed by the project team themselves. The university is not responsible for promoting projects affiliated with Crowdfund UC Davis. 


Why should I give to UC Davis?

UC Davis' footprint has grown considerably since our inception, and now includes the Bodega Marine Laboratory, the Tahoe Environmental Research Center in Nevada, and UC Davis Health and Aggie Square in Sacramento. Alumni, parents, and friends, through their generous donations, provide UC Davis Health, our world-class veterinary hospitals, and the students and faculty on our campus the support they need to pursue the ambitious research goals that have long defined our university, and continue to drive us today.


Is my gift tax-deductible?

The UC Davis Foundation and The Regents of the University of California - the two gift-receiving arms for UC Davis - are both qualified charities that provide donors with tax benefits to the full extent of the law. Your gift qualifies for a tax-deduction in accordance with IRS regulations, during the calendar year that you make your gift. After making a gift you will receive an email with information that can serve as a receipt for your files. Please consult your tax professional for more information.


Where will my gift to UC Davis go?

It’s up to you! You may give to any area of the university that is important to you, including the projects we have listed on our site. Whether your heart is with your college or school, a student program, UC Davis Health, our veterinary hospitals, a specific research initiative, or one of our crowdfund projects, we can help you support the program.


Can I give to more than one area?

Yes, you can support multiple projects when you check out. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.


Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes. There is a $5 minimum.


How will I receive my tax receipt?

You will get an email confirmation of your credit card transaction right after you make a gift.


When will my card be charged?

Your credit or debit card is charged immediately upon finalizing your gift.


Are there fees associated with giving to UC Davis?

UC Davis retains a 6% fee on each gift to current use funds; this fee helps to defray the administrative costs incurred in managing UC Davis’ fundraising operations.
