Engineers Without Borders (EWB)

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) at UC Davis is a student-run, non-profit student organization established to help developing areas worldwide with their engineering needs while involving and training internationally responsible engineering students. Our chapter is composed of three project teams that focus on providing a consistent supply of potable water to a community in Peru, improving the health and standard of living for a community in Bolivia by building sustainable latrines and partnering with a community in Kenya to develop an engineering solution for their limited access to clean, potable water. With your help, we can purchase the materials necessary to conduct water quality/quantity tests and implement real-world solutions, which will ensure our community partners receive access to safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation facilities. Your donations will also go towards sending trained student travelers to these communities.

Our organization offers company visits and presentations to share our current projects with our sponsors and professional engineers. We also host guest speakers and technical workshops at our meetings, including experienced travelers and other local professionals and demonstrations in software such as AutoCAD. Our largest community-wide fundraising event is Wine for Water and includes wine-tasting, presentations, networking, and a silent auction.

EWB at UC Davis raises all of its funding for its projects abroad. Donations to EWB will support our program's needs and allow more students within our project teams to travel and directly work with the community, increasing the impact the club can have.

$10

Operation & Maintenance

Your gift of $10 will help fund the printing of an operation and maintenance manual for the Peruvian community of La Huaylla. The manual provides guidance for the community members on how to properly maintain their water system to ensure the 1,300 residents of La Huaylla are getting a reliable source of potable water.

$20

Handwashing Sink

Your gift of $20 could provide a handwashing sink that can be installed outside of a household latrine in Bolivia. Providing a sink will improve the health and sanitation practices for a household in the Bolivian community.

$50

300 Bricks

Your gift of $50 would provide enough bricks for the construction of one latrine's superstructure for the Bolivia project. Providing brick walls will allow community members to feel protected while using the latrine.

$100

Water Quality Testing Kit

Your gift of $100 can purchase a test kit for the Peru or Kenya project to collect technical water quality data for further assessment and construction planning.

$500

Construction Materials

Your gift of $500 would be enough to purchase all of the necessary construction materials for one latrine. This includes bricks, toilet throne, sink, concrete, and piping costs. Your donation will provide all the materials for one household to build their latrine during the pandemic.

$1,000

Airfare

Your gift of $1000 would cover the average airfare cost for a team member to travel to Kenya, Peru, or Bolivia. Unfortunately, expensive plane tickets have prevented teams from traveling in the past. Help ensure our student members will be able to travel to our communities after the pandemic!

$2,000

Geological Surveying Equipment

Your gift of $2000 will help the Kenya project purchase surveying equipment to determine the location of groundwater aquifers. This equipment will be imperative to securing a safe water source for the community.
