We have successfully met our goal!

February 28, 2021

We did it!

We have successfully met our goal!

Thank you for your generous gift to Engineers Without Borders at UC Davis. With support from people like you, we will continue working to provide safe and clean drinking water to the communities we work with and improve the health and sanitization of the community. Access to safe water has the power to make a bright future possible for all.

You truly make a difference for us, and we are extremely grateful!

There are only 12 hours left for you to donate to our projects through Crowdfund. After today, our Crowdfund page will be off-line. Let's see how much more we can do together in the next 12 hours!

From all of us at Engineers Without Borders at UC Davis, thank you!

 With so much gratitude,

Engineers Without Borders at UC Davis

The Story about La Huaylla

February 23, 2021

Bringing Water to the Community

La Huaylla is a rural community located in the Cajamarca region in northern Peru.

With an approximate population of 1300 residents and 250 households, the community’s water system was deteriorating and not able to meet the community’s needs. Community members would boil their water and use buckets as storage in case their water supply stopped.

But recently, La Huaylla is getting water throughout the day. The Peru Team of EWB at UC Davis renovated two spring boxes and implemented a new 80 m³ reservoir for the community, with the help of the local water board, the San Marcos municipality, Peace Corp volunteers, and local volunteers.

The project improved the quality and quantity of the water that residents of La Huaylla received.

This Wednesday, your gift can go twice as far.

On Water Wednesday, a generous matching donor will match up to a total amount of $1,000 made this day.

On behalf of the community of La Huaylla, thank you for making a difference.

$10

Operation & Maintenance

Your gift of $10 will help fund the printing of an operation and maintenance manual for the Peruvian community of La Huaylla. The manual provides guidance for the community members on how to properly maintain their water system to ensure the 1,300 residents of La Huaylla are getting a reliable source of potable water.

$20

Handwashing Sink

Your gift of $20 could provide a handwashing sink that can be installed outside of a household latrine in Bolivia. Providing a sink will improve the health and sanitation practices for a household in the Bolivian community.

$50

300 Bricks

Your gift of $50 would provide enough bricks for the construction of one latrine's superstructure for the Bolivia project. Providing brick walls will allow community members to feel protected while using the latrine.

$100

Water Quality Testing Kit

Your gift of $100 can purchase a test kit for the Peru or Kenya project to collect technical water quality data for further assessment and construction planning.

$500

Construction Materials

Your gift of $500 would be enough to purchase all of the necessary construction materials for one latrine. This includes bricks, toilet throne, sink, concrete, and piping costs. Your donation will provide all the materials for one household to build their latrine during the pandemic.

$1,000

Airfare

Your gift of $1000 would cover the average airfare cost for a team member to travel to Kenya, Peru, or Bolivia. Unfortunately, expensive plane tickets have prevented teams from traveling in the past. Help ensure our student members will be able to travel to our communities after the pandemic!

$2,000

Geological Surveying Equipment

Your gift of $2000 will help the Kenya project purchase surveying equipment to determine the location of groundwater aquifers. This equipment will be imperative to securing a safe water source for the community.
