Over the past 45+ years Outdoor Adventures (OA), a nationally recognized program, has developed aspiring and devoted young leaders by connecting people to nature through our outdoor programs, guide schools, and leadership training. Today OA is raising money to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Outdoor Adventures.
Anyone who’s gone on a hike in Yosemite or camped underneath the stars knows how these opportunities can lead to transformative personal growth. Outdoor Adventures wishes to ensure that all students can enhance their experience at UC Davis through outdoor education. Unfortunately, not everyone has equal access - and divisions between those with and without often fall along borderlines between racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
One of the biggest obstacles preventing everyone from being able to enjoy the outdoors is the high cost of entry for those eager to explore an activity or location for the first time. Bringing the cost down for trips and classes would make an enormous impact in the community - and we need your help to do it.
Last year Kevin Schwartz, an Outdoor Adventures guide, donated $10,000 to the Outdoor Adventures community sparking additional giving totaling $24,430. If we can build on these donations and raise an additional $25,570 we will be able to start an endowment to ensure that Outdoor Adventures can continue to motivate and inspire. And of course, whether we reach our endowment level or not, your gifts will be used to support our Outdoor Adventures Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
We each have an opportunity to bring about positive change for our community. We hope those of you with fond memories of rafting down white water rapids or staying warm by the campfire under a starry sky share our dream of making sure everyone can have access to the immeasurably important aspects of university life that happen beyond the classroom.
A donation of $15 will help provide rental gear for a student embarking on a weekend backpacking trip. This will provide an opportunity for anyone who wishes to explore the outdoors with OA!
With your gift of $60, you can help us make our rafting trips more inclusive and available to a wide range of students. Allowing more students to get exposed to the wonders of the outdoors and all it has to offer.
A donation of $125 sponsors one OA Wilderness Guide School participant. Through a combination of classroom instruction and two full weekends of backpacking, guides learn how to take groups out on the trail and responsibly enjoy some of the most beautiful natural areas in California’s backcountry.
Your donation of $285 allows Outdoor Adventures to cover the cost of swiftwater rescue training, an essential skill for our raft guides.
An 8 day training, OA’s Rafting Guide School provides trainees with the skills to become professional rafting guides and builds lifelong bonds and friendships. Many of our graduates have gone on to become top guides and leaders for some of the most prominent Rafting companies in the world.
