Crowdfund UC Davis thanks all of the donors who gave to this important project in October. This campaign has closed, but you can still support our program by making a donation.
The Global Fellowship in Agricultural Development (GFAD) program provides graduate-level students the opportunity to travel and work with development organizations around the globe. Fellows, their faculty mentors and host organizations work collaboratively on projects that address challenges in agriculture and food systems in lower and middle-income countries (LMICs). Fellows “take research to action,” applying what is learned in the classroom to real-life situations. Fellows typically spend two to three months at project sites but may be funded for up to six months. In the process, GFAD Fellows gain valuable experience they can use as international development practitioners or to inform future doctoral research.
Since 2015, 120 fellows have worked in 32 different countries. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to send fellows into the field, and instead supported a small number of fellows to work on remote projects. As international travel restrictions ease, we are renewing our commitment to supporting fellowships in-country. Fellowships cover the cost of airfare, a living stipend, vaccines required for travel, local travel costs and when funds permit an additional sum is awarded to support project activities. We hope that with this crowdfunding effort we are able to raise enough money to support direct and program support expenses for one Fellow in 2022.
