Crowdfund UC Davis thanks all of the donors who gave to this important project in February. This campaign has closed, but you can still support our program by making a donation.
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) at UC Davis is a student-run, non-profit student organization established to help developing areas worldwide with their engineering needs while involving and training internationally responsible engineering students. Our chapter is composed of three project teams that focus on providing a consistent supply of potable water to a community in Peru, improving the health and standard of living for a community in Bolivia by building sustainable latrines and partnering with a community in Kenya to develop an engineering solution for their limited access to clean, potable water. With your help, we can implement real-world solutions to ensure our community partners receive access to safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation facilities.
In the past year, the support we received from our donors has made many incredible impacts!
The Bolivia team has moved to the largest construction phase with a plan to complete 4 latrines in one quarter remotely and plan future education projects in the community of Parque Colani such as hygiene lessons for the schools.
The Kenya team has completed the household sanitation WASH survey and finalized the contract with Sparr Drilling. This summer, the team will move to Implementation phase I to install a borehole with a hand pump in the community of Mabinju.
The Peru team has been in contact with the community to get updates. The team works closely with La Huaylla to ensure that their water system continues to meet the community's needs.
Join us and make an impact! Your donation will bring clean water to people in need.
Your gift of $10 will help fund the printing of an operation and maintenance manual for the Peruvian community of La Huaylla. The manual provides guidance for the community members on how to properly maintain their water system to ensure the 1,300 residents of La Huaylla are getting a reliable source of potable water.
Your gift of $20 could provide a handwashing sink that can be installed outside of a household latrine in Bolivia. Providing a sink will improve the health and sanitation practices for a household in the Bolivian community.
Your gift of $50 would provide enough bricks for the construction of one latrine's superstructure for the Bolivia project. Providing brick walls and a roof will allow community members to feel safe and protected while using the latrine.
Your gift of $100 can purchase a test kit for the Peru or Kenya project to collect technical water quality data for further assessment and construction planning.
Your gift of $200 would go towards a new well hand pump for the Kenya team! This device will help the community manually pump water from the new well the team is planning for.
Your gift of $500 would be enough to purchase all of the necessary construction materials for one latrine. This includes bricks, toilet throne, sink, concrete, and plumbing costs. Your donation will provide all the materials for one household to build their latrine during the pandemic.
Your gift of $1000 would cover the average airfare cost for a team member to travel to Kenya, Peru, or Bolivia. Unfortunately, expensive plane tickets have prevented teams from traveling in the past. Help ensure our student members will be able to travel to our communities after the pandemic!
