What We're Doing
Climate change impacts farmers in numerous ways, including through heat waves, drought, fire, flood, pests, and disease. While farms contribute to climate change, they can also help counter negative effects of the climate emergency by promoting carbon sequestration, water stewardship, farmland conservation, renewable energy use and climate equity.
The UC Davis Institute of the Environment is working with students, youth groups, educators, farmers and agricultural organizations to communicate climate-friendly agricultural practices to Californians through colorful murals, distinctive banners and creative signs in agricultural landscapes. We believe public art is an effective tool for educating people and can be a powerful catalyst for positive change.
Earlier this year, we partnered with a Yolo County almond farmer to paint a mural on his barn and add signs to his farm that address the role orchards play in sequestering carbon. Our next murals will be in the Coachella Valley and in Davis.
Our ultimate goal is to create a trail of climate murals across California. Please join us in our pursuit to bring awareness to agriculture's potential as a climate solution by supporting the next mural in the California Climate Art Trail!
Inspire young artists and make meaningful memories! Your $10 contribution will provide a canvas and set of acrylic paints and brushes to a member of the Lideres Campesinas youth group.
Your thoughtful donation of $25 assists in purchasing a stepladder for mural painters to access hard-to-reach places.
Your $50 contribution helps us purchase paint supplies like primer, sealant, roller brushes, and assorted paint colors.
Your generous donation of $100 allows us to hire a local band for the community paint day.
Your extraordinary donation of $500 supports the community paint day, providing painters with sunscreen, water and food.
