Cultivating Future Agricultural Health and Safety Leaders: Undergraduate Internship Program

California’s abundant agricultural fields fill the nation’s plates with fresh fruits and vegetables year round. This bounty is only possible because of the arduous labor of over half a million farmworkers and the tens of thousands of farms across the state. What is less known is that agriculture is one of the most dangerous occupations and agricultural workers face numerous economic and social vulnerabilities.

At the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, our mission is to improve the health and safety of agricultural workers in the west through innovative research, interactive trainings, and tailored outreach. Your donation will support a new Agricultural Health and Safety Undergraduate Internship Program to enhance student learning and career exploration within occupational health and safety through engaging with farmworker communities, learning from safety experts, and participating in trainings and events. The internship program will shine a light on the workers behind the food system and give students hands-on experience in creating and distributing informational and outreach resources for farmworkers throughout California.

There are first-generation students at UC Davis that have a direct connection with agricultural workers through their own or their parents' work in the fields. This internship enables students to act on their unique connections and appreciation of agriculture while also orienting students towards agricultural and public health degree programs and equipping them with knowledge they can share with their communities.

Your support will help interns understand the interconnection between human health, the climate, and the food system while empowering them to serve agricultural workers in our community.

Thank you for your support!
