KiDS puts graduate student scientists into classrooms in rural Lake County to teach 5th graders about the McLaughlin Reserve. The program also brings the kids out to the Reserve to learn about the unique geology and vegetation there by interacting with scientists in the field. This program forms a direct and personal link from rural classrooms to early-career scientists at our campus, enriching the education of both the 5th graders and UC Davis students. The program connects kids to nature in their own backyard.
ABOUT THE FUND
Your gift will be dedicated to providing support for graduate students organizing and conducting this program and for educational material and equipment the 5th grade students will need in the classroom and on site at the Don and Sylvia McLaughlin Reserve.
ABOUT YOUR DONATION
The John Muir Institute of the Environment’s Natural Reserves works with kids of all ages in a variety of programs. Donation to the KiDS fund will be dedicated to the KiDS program, enabling us to provide hands-on science to 5th graders in northern California in the Lake County area.
Please give to the KiDS Outreach Program. Our current priority is funding the KiDS program by supporting the graduate student educators.

Your gift of $50 can provide teaching equipment for one in-class session
Your gift of $100 can provide teaching equipment for one outdoor class
Your gift of $250 can provide bus support for one class to McLaughlin
Your gift of $500 can provide housing support for 2 months for 2 graduate students
Your gift of $1000 can provide 1 month of summer salary for a graduate educator
