More than ever everyone needs to know how to incorporate sustainable practices into their lives – at school, at work, and at home. However, talking about sustainability and the consequences of not making sustainable choices is … well, challenging. Creating effective and persuasive sustainability communicators requires training and tools!
The goal of Sustainability Speaks! is to empower and train the newest generation of sustainability communicators. This program will recruit a team of undergraduate students to become leaders in the conversations surrounding sustainability efforts at UC Davis. This team will receive professional communication training on how to amplify awareness about sustainability efforts, ensure our communities understand the complex integrated systems involved in sustainability progress at UCD and beyond, and receive the critical rhetorical training necessary to articulate this nuanced information to a diverse and broad audience.
Your donation will allow UC Davis Sustainability to provide professional communication coaches and sustainability communicators to train the Sustainability Speaks! undergraduate team. Along the way these recruits will become experts on the progress UC Davis has made towards their sustainability goals. To promote equitable access, all participants will receive a stipend. Our goal is for this team to be a strong and influential voice for UCD Sustainability in their own classrooms, communities, and wherever sustainability awareness is needed.

Your donation will be used to source sustainable transportation (e.g. electric vehicle & bicycle rentals) and lunch while we take field trips to sites on the Davis and Health campuses where we can see UC Davis' sustainability efforts in action!
Our regional community is full of world-renowned sustainability experts. This gift will support small honoraria for these invited external experts as they pass on their knowledge to the Sustainability Speaks! team.
When communicating nuanced and complex sustainability concepts rhetorical tools and communication skills are super important. Training from outside science communication experts with experience speaking to broad audiences will enhance the skills of every Sustainability Speaks! participant.
Reducing barriers to participation and promoting equity are important priorities for us. Providing students with stipends acknowledges the value of everyone's time and the importance of this critical work.
