The Champions Achieve Challenge

There were some big changes to UC Davis Women's Water Polo this summer. After 39 years at the helm, Jamey Wright retired this summer and Kandace Waldthaler was promoted to the new Coach Jamey Wright and Hodgens Family Director of Women's Water Polo after 12 years as an assistant and associate head coach. There is a lot of excitement ahead for the 2022-2023 as we look to build our team culture and performance in the classroom and in the pool.

We began the process of building our team culture and performance with a foreign tour training trip to Sibenik, Croatia. We spent one week in Sibenik, Croatia training, sightseeing, and building our team culture. A few highlights of the trip were playing the Croatian Women's Senior National team three times, visiting the waterfalls at Krka National Park, and practicing in a water polo course in the Adriatic Sea. It was an amazing experience for everyone and a perfect way to jump start the 2022-2023 school year.

Athletically, we return a strong group with a lot of experience. This season we will have four student-athletes taking advantage of their extra season due to COVID which will greatly add to our depth. Ally Clague and Alyssa Lengtat will return for their sixth season and Sophia Noble and Noelle Wijnbelt will return for their fifth season. We will lean heavily on their experience and leadership as we strive to reach our goals of a team GPA above 3.0, a top 10 national ranking, and winning the Big West Championship.

The donor support for UC Davis Women's Water Polo has always been strong. Your Aggie Pride for this program runs deep and is felt by the student-athletes and coaches. This university is an amazing place for our WWP student-athletes to grow as individuals while working to accomplish their academic and athletic goals and your support is key to our success.

Our goal for this Champions Achieve campaign is to receive a donation from 100 donors. Your gift in support of UC Davis Women's Water Polo will make a world of a difference to our program and the experience of our student-athletes. Our top priorities for funds raised during this campaign include:

  • Providing additional food and snacks for before and after training fuel and recovery.
  • Team bonding and team building events.
  • Sessions with a nutritionist and yoga instructor.

Thank you for supporting Women's Water Polo and helping to fund our greatest needs!

With you, our student-athletes have no limits to their achievements. With you, we are CHAMPIONS!
