GOAL UPDATE No. 2: Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far! We are now aiming even higher and have set a stretch goal of $2,500. We will continue to spread love through flowers and kinds acts, to remind our community that they are appreciated!
GOAL UPDATE No. 1: We are happy to announce that Blooms for Benefit has reached their fundraising goal of $1,500 mid-way through February. We are now aiming higher and have set a stretch goal of $2,000 to ensure all supplies are covered for our future club meetings.
Blooms For Benefit is a non-profit student run organization at UC Davis that started in 2021. Our mission is to bring love and hope to those experiencing tough situations by delivering repurposed flowers donated by organizations and events. We aim to comfort others and improve their well-being and emotional health through the vitality of flowers.
We have connected with a variety of community partners throughout Davis, including Nugget Markets, Trader Joes, Acts 2 Network Church, and newlyweds, who donate their leftover flowers to us. These flowers, which are often composted when they cannot be used anymore, have lots of life and joy left to give!
Blooms for Benefit collects these bouquets to either repurpose or regift them. Since 2021, we have donated more than 400 bouquets to local communities such as VN CARES, Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, Davis Senior Center, Paul's Place, and the Davis Cold Weather Shelter. Through our event, Random Flowers of Kindness, we have surprised strangers at Central Park in Davis with about 140 bouquets, to lift a smile on their face. Another 20 bouquets have been donated alongside 100 homemade meals to the downtown Sacramento unhoused population in our event, Best Buds: Outreach to Our Neighbors in Need. When flowers are not in the best condition or are scarce, our members find a way to repurpose them by making cards, origami flowers, and pressed flower frames to distribute.
Our goal is to fundraise to be able to expand our capacity to reach more of our community. Donations will help to fund our current goals, including: assisting with delivery costs, vases, food, frames, and more! Community members such as the unhoused and elderly patients seldom receive visitors, and much less the gift of flowers. Our hope is that our flowers will bring a little bit of life and joy into their lives and bridge connections throughout our community!
About Your Donation: Our new organization depends on the generosity and support of the local community, staff, faculty, friends, and family in order to allow Blooms for Benefit to bloom throughout Northern California. Our organization offers a unique opportunity to promote sustainability through the reuse of flowers, while improving the emotional health of our community. Blooms for Benefit connects the community and allows us to all stop and smell the roses!
Your donation of $10 will be used to buy postage stamps and advertising materials.
Your donation of $25 will be used to buy flower frames for our pressed flower frame making events.
Your donation of $50 will be used to buy our frequently used crafting materials such as table covers, construction paper, pencils, markers, stencils and acrylic paint.
Your donation of $75 will be used to buy vases for us to present the flowers to our community members.
Your donation of $250 will be used to buy appropriate groceries for when we conduct Outreach for our Unhoused Neighbors. You will be listed on our website's donor wall.
Your donation of $500 will go towards developing our club and reaching people beyond Davis, to become a nationwide non-profit organization. You will be listed on our website's donor wall.
