Crowdfund UC Davis thanks all of the donors who gave to this important project in February. This campaign has closed, but we are grateful for your support!
In the below clip, you will hear from one of our amazing volunteer stylists, the owner of Salon Cuvee in Sacramento, as well as see a CAREcut in action!
The CARE Project’s CAREcut Program was featured on Good Day Sacramento! For those who don’t know, a CAREcut is a free bedside haircut provided to patients by volunteer licensed cosmetologists. These CAREcuts help return a sense of normalcy to our hospital milieu, emphasize the important of self-care, and help our patients look and feel like themselves again! In Part I, you will hear from The CARE Project's manager, Katie Lorain, and one of our grateful patients who received a CAREcut.
The CARE Chronicle is The CARE Project's quarterly newsletter, providing updates on the holistic and therapeutic innovations at UC Davis Health. Join us for a sneak peek into what we have accomplished recently! For the full edition, join our mailing list!
As we enter our second week of fundraising, we are reminded that "Support Takes Many Forms." We are so grateful for those who can make a monetary donation, but we are just as appreciative of all the people who support The CARE Project with their time, talents, and passions. This can take the form of volunteering, like the hairstylists from Salon Paisley and Salon Cuvee in Sacramento who visit our hospital quarterly and provide CAREcuts for patients at bedside. Or our UC Davis student volunteers who restock our CARE Carts weekly and spend quality time with patients.
Support can also take the form of spreading awareness about The CARE Project to your friends, family, and colleagues. Sharing a link to our Crowdfund page on social media or liking and resharing our Instagram posts (Instagram @thecareproject_ucdavishealth) are wonderful ways to promote the work we do at UC Davis Health.
And when we give support to others, we are also reminded about the necessity of supporting oneself. This can be through an active self-care practice, setting limits and boundaries, or even just taking a moment to sit and breathe. Today, The CARE Project offers to support you, our donors, friends, and colleagues. We invite you to take a moment to sit and breathe. Need more direction? Follow the link below for a guided meditation led by The CARE Project's Creative Arts and Recreation Therapy Manager, Katie Lorain. And as always, thank you for your support.
At the end of each week, we reflect on The CARE Project's Mission and think of a theme to describe the connections we made with patients, staff, and visitors. This week's theme is "More Good Days." This week was very exciting for The CARE Project as we officially launched our Crowdfund Campaign - already achieving 20% of our goal! Thank you to all who have already donated - with your help we will continue to accomplish great things, ensuring there are "More Good Days" to come.
We celebrated three birthdays this week throughout the hospital:
This week, we also rolled out our Reiki CARE for Staff Program and provided five individual chair Reiki sessions for nurses, clinicians, and medical staff during their breaks. Staff completed pre/post-session assessments, sharing how the Reiki session was integral to them having a "good day."
So here's to "More Good Days" at UC Davis Medical Center for patients, their loved ones, and our frontline staff who provide such good care for the patients on some of their worst days.
With gratitude,
Katie Lorain, MPS, ATR-BC, Reiki III
