SWEGS stands for Society of Water and Environmental Graduate Students and was formed to support professional and personal ambitions and development of all members. SWEGS maintains strong relationships with faculty members and professionals in and around Davis by hosting weekly seminars during Fall and Winter quarters. SWEGS provides members with the ability to meet fellow graduate students, alumni, and professionals all with varying interests. During Spring quarter SWEGS hosts an annual showcase which gives current students the ability to present their research topics to undergraduate and graduate students, professionals, and UC Davis faculty.
Why is the Showcase Important?
The SWEGS showcase allows graduate students the opportunity to present their groundbreaking work to fellow peers, faculty, staff members, and professionals in the industry. Graduate students will gain presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate their work to those unfamiliar with terminology related to their projects. Each year the SWEGS board members work hard to provide a groundbreaking theme where the topics can encompass the changes the Water and Environmental fields are undergoing. This year a focus of the relationship between engineering and social, economic, and environmental factors. SWEGS also calls upon professors and industry professionals to present their work in the industry or their labs. In addition, SWEGS hosts a panel discussion where professors, professionals, and students can share their experiences in the field.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant community for Environmental and Water Resources graduate students in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Davis. We aim to provide a supportive and inclusive environment that nurtures academic excellence and fosters meaningful social connections, through community-based events and gatherings. Our commitment is to promote success, support, and a sense of belonging for each graduate student.

SWEGS envisions itself as a cornerstone in the EWR community, driven by students to empower their peers and enhance the graduate student experience. We aspire to be a dynamic hub where graduate students from diverse backgrounds come together to engage in professional and personal development.
