The UC Davis Natural Reserve System (the NRS) is a world leader in environmental research and education, and provides living laboratories for hands-on student experiences beyond the classroom. Outdoor wildland experiences broaden perspectives, heighten curiosity, and create life-long connections for students through a unique sense of place. The Quail Ridge and Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserves (QRR and SCCR) provide close-to-campus research sites for students to explore and create transformational experiences.
Stebbins and Quail are part of a network of 41 reserves that protect representations of most California ecosystems for research and teaching. These reserves provide the basis for important research addressing questions relating to climate change-induced rapid changes affecting the state of our natural resources. The Reserves also support research in all disciplines from the arts and humanities to the sciences and engineering, and they promote diversity, inclusion and innovative research.
The Students in the Wild effort will help to fund scholarships to graduate students to support their research endeavors. Examples of researcher expenses include travel, purchase of equipment and software, and the cost of specialized sample analyses.
Your donation will help to grow the Maurer-Timm Quail Ridge Endowment fund into perpetuity to support student research at the SCCR and QRR reserves. The fund name honors the vision of local pioneers Lenora Timm and Frank Maurer, and lives on as a legacy to their efforts in land preservation and conservation, and student engagement and development.
