Tower Installation

March 13, 2024

We're so excited to have finished installing a permanent tower for the upgraded webcam in Horseshoe Cove! The current camera has been on a temporary stand while we tore down the old shed and waited for a stretch of dry weather to install a new, heavy-duty tower that can withstand the tough coastal conditions.

What's next? We have the new camera and plan to install it in a few weeks as the weather improves. The current camera may have some spotty operation and downtime while we move the cables and get things situated for the new one. Once the Horseshoe Cove camera is completed, we will turn our attention to adding the second camera!

Thank you to our Physical Plant staff, whose expertise and effort made the installation possible, and to all our project donors for their generous gifts.

Shell-ebrating a successful finish!

November 07, 2023

The generosity of this project's 73 donors has made it possible for us to upgrade the Horseshoe Cove webcam and add a second webcam on the roof of the lab!

Now that the fundraising stage is completed, we are working to get the new equipment in place and hope to do so before the winter weather rolls in. We have already been able to make great strides by replacing the cables that connect the camera to the lab and demolishing the old shed, as you’ve probably noticed from the clearer view and more consistent connection! Next, we will replace the camera in Horseshoe Cove and install a sturdy tower for it. Then a second camera will be mounted on the roof of the lab, pointing to a view of the open ocean. We’re so excited to share the results once these parts of the project are completed and will send an update to all project donors as soon as the new views go live.

For donors whose gift levels include tours and/or commemorative tiles, we will be reaching out to you soon to make arrangements for those.

We can’t thank you enough for being part of this project and part of our community.

Two Weeks To Go!

October 15, 2023

Because of the generous support of fifty-four donors who have supported this project so far, we've been able to fund the upgrade of the Horseshoe Cove webcam. We are also well on our way to adding a second webcam on the roof of the lab, with just a little over $3,500 still needed to hit our goal.

Thank you for your support!

Our Webcam Project is fully funded! Now we're setting our sights on a second camera.

October 05, 2023

THANK YOU!!! We have surpassed our goal of $7,500 and are aiming higher with a new STRETCH GOAL of $13,000!

We couldn’t be more grateful to the community of supporters whose gifts have made it possible to upgrade the Horseshoe Cove webcam. Since we still have another 26 days left on this project, we’re extending our goal in hopes of raising enough to add an additional webcam on the roof of the lab that will display a view of the open ocean.

Every donation, big or small, has a huge impact on public access and research efforts at the laboratory and on the reserve.

Thank you from all of us at the Bodega Marine Laboratory and Reserve!
